Our History

In July 2013, Christ Evangelical Free Church celebrated its 35th Anniversary of ministry to families in the Mahoning Valley.  With children’s, youth, men’s, and women’s ministries, CEFC exists to love God and to love people by reaching others for Christ and helping them grow in Christ to the glory of God.

It all began 35 years ago when several local families yearning for Christ-centered Bible teaching began a home-based Bible study. Just months later, they committed themselves to start an Evangelical Free Church in this area. The first church service’s official date was July 2, 1978.

God richly blessed their effort.  This congregation of just a handful of spirit-filled families multiplied quickly. Fifteen acres of land were purchased.  A multipurpose building was completed in 1981 as a result of prayerful commitment from this dedicated body of CEFC members.

In 1989, an addition doubled the size of the existing sanctuary.  There was now a seating capacity for 500, plus additional classroom and office space.

Still, God used the ministry of CEFC to reach additional people in the Mahoning Valley.  In September of 1996, another construction project added an additional wing to provide needed space for educational and social functions.

Over the past 35 years, the body of believers at CEFC has trusted the Lord Jesus through His Word to direct their paths.  They continue now to seek His guidance for the future growth of the church, both physical and spiritual.
